Dennis Lee Lackey, 77, of Statesville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the Gordon Hospice House.
Dennis was born on September 16, 1948, in Iredell County, and was the son of the late Escar Lee Lackey and Betty Teague Lackey. He was a graduate of Scotts High School and a faithful member of Oakdale Baptist Church.
Dennis was the president and co-owner of Statesville Stained Glass Restoration and Preservation. A gifted craftsman with a passion for preserving the beauty and history of stained glass, his exquisite work can be seen in numerous churches throughout Statesville and the surrounding areas, as well as in the renowned Duke University Chapel and the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. His exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail will remain a lasting testament to his remarkable talent, dedication, and legacy for generations to come.
In addition to his work, Dennis was a car enthusiast and an avid golfer.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sylvia Lackey, who passed away on December 15, 2025, and their young son, Christopher, who passed away on January 3, 1980.
Those left to cherish his memory are his brother, Rick Lackey (Pam); sister, Donna Haithcox (Doug); nieces and nephews, Cameron Heck, Melanie Raynor (Kent), Cinda Simmons (Micheal) and Erin Depalma (Joseph); great nieces and great nephews, Olivia and Karsyn Heck, Owen, Brooklyn and Mila Raynor, and Carter and Ella Simmons; and aunts, Naomi Stikeleather and Mary Lackey.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 16 at Oakdale Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Daniels officiating. The family will visit with friends prior to service from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Oakdale Baptist Church, 585 Mocksville Hwy, Statesville, NC 28625.
Arrangements for Mr. Lackey are in the care of Troutman Funeral Home.
