David Montgomery, Iii

David Oren Montgomery, III, formerly of Statesville, NC, entered the Church Triumphant on January 14, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC. David was born in Statesville on March 28, 1954, the son of the late David O. Montgomery, Jr. and Audrey Loftin Montgomery both of whom he cared for sacrificially at the end of their lives.

David graduated from Statesville High School and from N.C. State University with a degree in Architecture. He worked as an architect in Raleigh and Savannah. He was an avid cyclist and explorer of back roads and out of the way places, and loved the Outer Banks.

He is survived by a sister, Claire Montgomery Bailey (David) of Anderson, SC, and a brother, William Thomas Montgomery, Sr. (Terry Holt) of Fletcher, NC; by two nieces, Erin Bailey Newberry (Derek) and Allison Neal Bailey; by two nephews, John Montgomery Bailey and William Thomas Montgomery, Jr. (Bailey); and by three great nephews, Dawson, McLean, and Montgomery Newberry.

The family is grateful for the loving care David received at Dominion Senior Living and Rainey Hospice House.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621, or the charity of one’s choice.
