Curtis Franklin George

Mr. Curtis Franklin George, 80, of Statesville, passed away, Saturday, July 13, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House.

Curtis was born October 27, 1938 in Kings Mountain, NC and was the son of the late John Ivey George and Eva Ballard George. He was the youngest of eight siblings, a graduate of Kings Mountain High School, where he was the student body President and was on their state champion football team. He graduated from Erskine College in 1961 and served honorably in the US Army. On June 4, 1966, he married Mary Williams George, who survives. He attended Forest Park Presbyterian Church and was a member of Covenant ARP Church, where he served as an Elder, Congregational Chairman, Treasurer and sang in the church choir.

He was the Manager of Glidden Paint Store for over 30 years and won many paint sales awards for the company. He was a long-time member of Statesville Evening Civitan Club for over 30 years, where he served as President and was also honored with the Civitan of the Year Award. He loved his family, church, friends, sports, traveling, camping with his family, playing canasta, beach music and dancing. His favorite sports teams were the Carolina Panthers, UNC Tarheels and Clemson Tigers.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by three sons, Bryan George (Sherry) of Statesville, Alan George of Statesville, Michael George (Beth) of Hodges, SC; nine grandchildren; one brother, Richard George (Sally) of Virginia Beach, VA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lizzy George.

Burial with military honors will be held 10:00 am Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Covenant ARP Church with Rev. Scott Jeffreys and Rev. Dr. Earl Linderman officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times will assemble at the George Residence.
