Cora Compton

Cora Mae Rumple Compton, 87, of Statesville, NC passed away at the Gordon Hospice House of Iredell County on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. She was born in Troutman, NC to the late Kenneth Rumple and the late Velma Teague Rumple.

She graduated from Troutman High School in 1955. Cora worked as a fabric weaver at Uniglass Industries for 17 and a half years and then Clark Equipment as a machine operator and assembler for 17 and a half more years. She married her first late husband, Edgar Loren Compton and then her second late husband, Roy Wellington Poovey. She was a member of New Sterling A.R.P. Church in Stony Point, NC.

Along with her husbands, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Compton Elliott; a grandson, Daniel Goodman; a brother, Donald Rumple; a half-brother, D.H. Cherry; a nephew, Kenneth Rumple; and a niece, Diane Rumple.

Those who survive include two daughters, Catherine Murdock (Bruce) of Newton, NC and Karen Goodman of Statesville, NC; a son, Edgar Compton, Jr. (Lori) of Statesville, NC; a son-in-law, Mark Elliott (Kim) of Statesville, NC; many grandchildren, Krysta, David, Hannah, Kattie, Gary, Madison, and Merritt; step-grandchildren, Kyle, and Brandon Manaa; and a stepdaughter, Teresa Manaa (Louie) of Swansea, SC. Seven great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren also survive.

A private burial will be held at New Perth A.R.P. Church Cemetery at 11:00 am. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 22, 2024, at New Sterling A.R.P. Church with Dr. Earl Linderman and Boone McAulay officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.
