The world is a little less bright (and definitely a lot quieter) today as we say goodbye to the legendary Christine Marie Freudenberg. Christine passed away peacefully, surrounded by her favorite humans—her son Sean, her husband John, and a tight-knit circle of family and friends—and, of course, the "mutt squad" that ruled her heart and her home: Jax, Daisy, and Ollie.
A proud Long Island native, Christine spent her formative years soaking up the sun at Point Lookout and Oceanside pool. She moved with her family to Statesville, NC about 12 years ago and swore she’d never leave, but she carried the ocean in her soul wherever she went.
She loved the water so much that she and John decided to get married in Key West. What was supposed to be a quiet elopement somehow transformed into a "small military movement," eventually requiring a literal trolley to transport the unexpected crowd of loved ones who wouldn't dream of missing it.
If Christine wasn't in the ocean or the pool, you could find her:
In the Garden: Bringing color to the world one flower at a time.
In the Kitchen: Baking up treats that probably made the neighbors jealous.
Celebrating: Especially if it was Halloween or St. Paddy’s Day (which, let’s be honest, is a mandatory national holiday in this family).
She also leaves her best friend/sister, Denise, who lived nearby in Statesville, ensuring that Christine’s lifelong friend was never more than a few minutes away.
"She was the greatest Mom to Sean and the best wife to John. But mostly, she just really, really loved her boy."
Christine, you are finally free from pain. We know you’re somewhere warm right now, with a drink in your hand, your toes in the sand, and the music turned up loud enough to dance.
Cheers to a life well-lived and a woman well-loved!!
