Charles Henry Fitzgerald

Charles Henry Fitzgerald, 83, of Statesville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Gordon Hospice House.

Born in Iredell County on November 6, 1942, he was the son of the late Sam E. Fitzgerald and Margaret Stewart Fitzgerald.

In addition to his parents, Charles was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Hilda Tucker Fitzgerald and his sister, Judy Fitzgerald.

Charles graduated from Statesville Senior High School and retired as the Assistant Fire Chief from Statesville Fire Department after 43 years of service to his community.

He was a founding member of Westwood Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, assisted with keeping the church clean and sang in the choir.

Other hobbies included riding motorcycles and he was an avid bowler.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Rhonda F. Haynes (Dean) of Yadkinville, NC; his son, Keith Fitzgerald of Conover, NC; two grandchildren, Kyle Haynes (Ashley) and Tiffany H. Rowe (Shawn) and five great-grandchildren, Charlie Rowe, Callie Rowe, Grayson Haynes, Noah Haynes and Gabriel McAdams; his longtime companion, Loyce Campbell and his uncle, whom he considered more as his brother, Ronnie Stewart.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM at Westwood Baptist Church.

The funeral service celebrating his life will begin at 3:30 PM with John Perry, Curtis Privette, Rev. Carl Williams and Jeff Leaptrott officiating. Charles will be laid to rest beside his wife at Oakwood Cemetery. Kyle Haynes will officiate at the graveside and the Statesville Fire Department Honor Guard will conduct final honors.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Gordon Hospice House, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.

The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to Dr. Chase Sherman of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and to all the angels at Gordon Hospice House for their exceptional love and care shown to Charles and his family. Special thanks to all the family and friends who have supported them during this time.
