Charles Douglas Blankenship, 62, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2019, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

Born July 16, 1956 in Iaeger, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Alfred and Suella King Blankenship. He attended Statesville schools and on August 21, 1977, was married to Sandra Burrell Blankenship who survives. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was self employed in Poultry and Cattle Farming.

Doug enjoyed bluegrass music, farm auctions, gardening, mowing his grass but especially enjoyed spoiling his granddaughter.

In addition to his wife, Sandra, Doug is survived by one son, Lynn Blankenship (Maggie) of Clemmons, N.C., a granddaughter, Stella Blankenship; two brothers: Johnny Blankenship (Doris), William Blankenship (Pat); four sisters: Shelia Peters (Ed), Patsy Kerley (Tim), Lisa Dowdle (Rhyne), Teri McDonald (Gene). Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Blankenship and one sister, Karen B. Morrison.

Doug was a member of Society Baptist church where the family will visit with friends on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be held at a later date.
