Byron Lee Scott was born in Pitcairn, PA, on April 1, 1929, to John Sanford and Myrtle Staats Scott. He passed away, peacefully, on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, NC, just a few days shy of his 95th birthday.
After high school in Lakewood, OH, Byron was drafted into the Army during the Korean war. He was fortunate to be assigned to serve as an all- terrain vehicle mechanic. Since he always loved mechanics and working on cars, it was an ideal assignment for him.
After returning home, he met and married Mary Jo Forrester. Together they had two children, Jeffrey and Holly.
Loving cars, he found the perfect career at the Buick Motor Division of GM. He retired as Director of Service, Home Office, Flint, Michigan in1992.
After retirement, Byron and his second wife, Rosemary Bach Scott, left Michigan, headed south to North Carolina and never looked back. They found a great neighborhood in Statesville, NC, where his wife, who survives, resides.
He also loved big game hunting. He hunted deer, elk, moose and even wild boar all over the country, and bagged several trophies.
In addition to his wife, Rosemary, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey (Pam) Scott of Howell, MI; five granddaughters, Danielle Archer, Meghan Buda, Shelby Scott, Stephanie Ferguson Heyworth, and Stacy Ferguson Lewis; two stepsons, Travis and Christopher Bach; three step grandchildren, Allyson and Johnathon Bach, and Sean Keyes; and one sister, Johann; along with several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jo Scott; his daughter, Holly Scott Ferguson, and his stepson Peter J. Bach.
A Celebration of Byron’s life will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 1:30 pm at Troutman Funeral Home, Troutman, NC.
