Brenda Greene Baker passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the age of 80.

She was born on September 20, 1945, in Henderson, North Carolina, to Isobel O’Brien Greene and Stephen William Greene, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her younger brother, Stephen Michael Greene, and her beloved husband, David Joseph Baker, Sr.

Brenda was valedictorian of her Class of 1963 at Dabney High School, a distinction that foreshadowed the drive and intelligence she would bring to everything she pursued. She continued her education after graduating from high school at Vance Granville Technical Institute. On October 4, 1963, she married the love of her life, David Joseph Baker, Sr. Together, Brenda and David made their home in several communities, moving from Henderson, Lexington, and then to Statesville, all in North Carolina, as his career in the textile industry advanced.

She enjoyed a successful and fulfilling career, beginning as a tax accountant with Holden, Moss, Knott CPAs in Henderson, North Carolina, before becoming a real estate broker with Davidson Development LLC in Davidson, North Carolina. An avid reader and enthusiastic traveler, Brenda especially loved spending time at her cherished condo in Cherry Grove, South Carolina, affectionately known as “The Lily Pad.” She was an accomplished bridge player, a wonderful cook, and enjoyed basketball and tennis in her younger years. Her wit, warmth, and charming sense of humor were treasured by all who knew her. A kind and gracious lady, Brenda was known for her flair for style and her talent for decorating, creating beautiful and welcoming spaces wherever she lived. Above all, Brenda cherished role as “Mimi” to her grandsons, Jack and Baker. She leaves behind a lasting example of wisdom, courage, and strength that will continue to inspire her family and friends for generations to come.

Brenda is survived by her much-loved children: her son, David Joseph Baker, Jr. (Adam Novak), of Jersey City, New Jersey; her daughter, Lea Baker Stikeleather (John); her grandsons, John (Jack) Grier Stikeleather, IV and William (Baker) Stikeleather, of Statesville, North Carolina; her sister, Judith Greene Gregory, of Anchorage, Alaska; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life honoring Brenda Greene Baker will be held at Magnolia Glen in the park, 1053 The Glen Street, Statesville, North Carolina 28677, on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 3:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to attend the celebration, with a reception to follow.
