Boyd Benfield

Herbert Boyd Benfield, 96, of Statesville, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House.

Boyd was born October 14, 1928, in Iredell County, to the late Hubert Benfield and Mary Pope Benfield. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, and he worked for United Merchants (formerly Uniglass) for more than 40 years.

He was a hard worker who loved watching Westerns, doing woodworking and gardening.

In addition to his parents, Boyd was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Nancy Smith Benfield; sisters, Marge Pope and Sylvia Benfield; and brother, Ray “Chick” Benfield.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Mike Dagenhart (Patsy); daughter, Bonnie Killmeyer (Scott); granddaughters, Holly McDaniel (Clinton), Tracy Barnes (Stephen) and Brittany Head (Ken); eight great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Templeton.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, April 18 at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Denise Kilgo and Jeff Carson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625, or Jurney’s of Statesville, 1942 Van Haven Drive, Statesville, NC 28625.
