Billy “Bill” Ray Johnson, 84, of Statesville, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at his home.
Mr. Johnson was born in Iredell County, March 30, 1938, the son of the late Ray Daniel Johnson and Reatha Guy Johnson. Bill attended Scotts High School, class of 1956. He served his country honorably in the US Army. On August 23, 1958, he married Bonnie Levon Stevenson and together they shared more than 63 years of marriage. Bill was an automobile mechanic, who retired from Alex Green Buick.
Mr. Johnson was an outdoorsman who loved bird and quail hunting, working with, and training his hunting dogs, bowling, fishing, and gardening. He also dearly enjoyed spending time with family, friends and his dog, Gracie.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Cora Lee Johnson Fortner (Frank).
Those left to cherish Billy’s memory are his wife, Bonnie, his daughter Gena Bergner (John), his son, Kevin Johnson (Lyn), his brother Thomas Johnson (Karol), sister Betty Cockayne, sisters-in-law, Carolyn Stevenson and Sue Stevenson, brother-in-law, Charles Stevenson, his bonus grandchildren; John, Bryan and Leah Bergner, and his beloved nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Bill Johnson, will be conducted 11:00 am, Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Concord Presbyterian Church, the Reverend Elizabeth Troyer officiating.
