Billy Gene Wright

Billy Gene Wright, 76, of Harmony, NC, formally of Swann Road, Statesville, NC, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2026.

Born July 29, 1950, in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of the late Frank Edward Wright and Dorothy Irene Shepherd Wright.

Bill retired from Statesville Housing Authority. In his spare time, he was a “wood widdler” at heart, especially custom canes, characters, etc. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved sweetheart and wife, Frances B. Wright of 42 years of marriage; his sister, Karen Rasi (Jerry) and his fur baby, Dolly.

Bill had no children of his own, but inherited, as we called it, “The Whole Happy Meal” when he married our mother. Included are Charlotte Maynus, Clarence “Kenny” Maynus, Kevin Lee Maynus, Claude “Pewee” Fletcher, II, Misty Barnett Lockman (Jeromy), and Keith Ray Fletcher.

His grandchildren are Jennifer, Lee Arthur, Amanda, Jill, Luke Maynus, Amanda Fletcher Poole, Austin Lewis Fletcher, Rayanne and Braydon Fletcher, Gavin and Alex Fletcher, David Bryan Parlier, Christopher Ryan Lockman, and Chloe Elizabeth Lockman Cooper (Travis).

His in-laws Charlie, Margaret Barnett, Wilma McPhee and Lee Finley Barnett, Jr; also, a host of nieces and nephews.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Gayle Johnson, and Janie Bourne; brother, Edward “Eddie” Wright; his in-laws, Lee Finley and Madaline Barnett; niece, Cyndi Kinder, David Kinder and Samatha Wright Rodgers; sister-in-law, Marsha Kay “Blackie” Barnett, J. R. Barnett, Heather Barnett and Betty Barnett Bailey and brother-in-law, Allen McPhee.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Troutman Funeral Home.

The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM with Rev. James Keever officiating. Burial will follow at Unity Baptist Church Cemetery.

For those who would like to visit with the family at other times, they will assemble at 130 Quiet Acres Trail Harmony, NC
