Betty Lou Bass Overcash, 81, boarded the Old Ship Zion and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 11, 2010. She was surrounded by her family as she made her final journey. Born July 4, 1929 in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Worth Franklin and Irene Lipe Bass. She was a member of Ostwalt Baptist Church, attended Troutman High School and retired from Beaunit Industries as an inspector. She is survived by her husband, W. T. Overcash, of the home; two sons, Tommy (Judy) Overcash of Statesville and Dean Overcash of Troutman; one daughter, Barbara Overcash of Troutman; five grandchildren, Wendy (Kelly) Robinson, Larry (Kim) Overcash, Mandy Overcash, James Sprinkle and Brian (Shannon) Overcash; and six great grandchildren, Noelle Bowles, Damian Overcash Gavin and Macy Overcash, Steven, Justin and Allison Overcash. Also surviving are three sisters, Lillie Mayhew, Juell Carrigan and Elizabeth "Sis" Mayhew. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Funderburk and Verna Mae Smith; and four brothers, Ross Nesbit, Lewis, Jay Allen and Cleytus Bass. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, October 13th from 6 - 8:30 p.m. at Troutman Funeral Home. Funeral services celebrating Betty’s life will be held at Ostwalt Baptist Church on Thursday, October 14th, at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Eddie Graham and Jason Boger officiating. Interment will follow at Iredell Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
