Betty Anderson

Betty Jo Steele Anderson, 81, of Troutman, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House.

Betty was born August 12, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Clifford P. Steele and Virginia Thompson Steele. She was a graduate of Statesville High School and Meredith College. She worked for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and taught at Providence Day School, and Granger High School. She was a member of Broad Street United Methodist. Her acquaintances knew her as Aunt Betty, BJ, or just Betty Jo. Betty enjoyed yardwork, she loved the beach and the Panthers. She enjoyed being a tour director to Europe every summer with high school kids.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara S. Tsumas and great niece, Abigail Grace Tsumas.

Those left to cherish her memory are nephew, Harry M. Tsumas (Ellen); niece, Harriet T. Tsitouris (Steve); great niece, Anna T. Gordon (Zach) and their children, Emma Rose, Charlotte, and Ellis; great niece, English T. Blanton (Charlie) and their children, Tatum and Angela Jane; great nephew, Dustin Crawford (Lauren) and their children, River Jean and Banks, and Dylan Crawford (Haley) and their children, Waylon and Tatum; brother-in-law, Harry L. Tsumas.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 14 at 2:00 pm at Broad Street United Methodist Church. The family will visit with friends following the service.
