Bennie Ray Souther

Bennie Ray Souther, 83, of Burlington, and formerly of Statesville, passed away on November 4, 2025, at Hospice Home of High Point. He was born on January 24, 1942, in Harmony, North Carolina, to the late Oom Paul Souther and Minta Speaks Souther. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Gray Souther; a sister, Katherine Souther Meadows; his beloved wife, Evelyn Brown Souther; and a son, Paul David Souther. Bennie is survived by his brother, Commie Souther, and wife Lynn; two sons, Bennie Ray Souther Jr. and Bobby Daniel Souther; and two daughters, Fay Souther Bailey and Monika Souther Baker and her husband, Colton Baker. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Stefanie Souther (Brendan Smyth), Jessica Tucker (Ashley), Benjamin Souther, Talburt Tucker, and Carolina Beth Baker Maynard (Christian), as well as one great-grandson, Ronin Smyth. Bennie earned his Divinity degree from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He followed his calling to the mission field, where he ministered to Native American communities in White Dog, Ontario, and Swan River, Manitoba, Canada. Upon returning to the United States, he served faithfully as pastor of Piedmont Baptist Church in Burlington, North Carolina. After retiring from the ministry, Bennie continued his life of hard work and adventure as a long-distance truck driver for about 15 years. His life was marked by service, faith, and dedication to his family and community. A man of deep conviction and compassion, Bennie will be remembered for his steadfast faith, kind heart, and devotion to those he loved.

The family will visit with friends on Monday, November 10 at Troutman Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm in the Lewis Baptist Church Cemetery in North Wilkesboro, with Rev. John Parks officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1803 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.

Arrangements for Mr. Souther are in the care of Troutman Funeral Home.
