Becky Freeze Royster

Becky Freeze Royster, 79, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully with friends and family at her side on Saturday, August 31, 2024, while at The Atrium Hospital in Pineville. NC, where she had been for 38 days.

Born on March 2, 1945, at Davis Hospital in Statesville, NC, Becky was the daughter of the late Hival Dent Freeze and Mary Dorcas “Dot” Simpson Freeze. In addition to her parents, Becky was also preceded in death by her son, Ira G. Royster IV. She was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Marie Jordan Freeze.

Becky is survived by her brother, Charlie Freeze (Donna) of North Myrtle Beach, SC; step-sister, Judy Davenport (Glenn) of Shelby, NC; nephew, Todd Freeze (Lisa) of Monroe, NC; niece. Julie Freeze Carlton of Dalton, GA; great nieces, Carrie Carlton of Myrtle Beach, SC and Charleigh Kirby (Tristan) of Dalton, GA; great nephew, Adam Jefferson Freeze, of Monroe, NC. Also surviving is one of Becky’s biggest fans, Prince Charles “PC”, her Springer Spaniel nephew, who loved and welcomed her visits.

What these facts about Becky do not tell is the story of a life well lived. She was a friend to all, particularly loyal to her family, those from her past, including childhood friends from Troutman and adult friends in the Charlotte area. Her door and her heart were always open. An excellent Southern cook, Becky frequently gave friends her baked goods; particularly welcomed were her pound cake and brownies. Her loyalty extended to the Carolina Panthers in spite of all. And she loved sports of all kinds, particularly televised pro tennis events. An honest, funny, dependable, loving person – she will be missed deeply, deeply missed by those who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 5th, 2024, in the Troutman Funeral Home Chapel. The family will visit with family and friends from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville.
