Barry Mitchell

Barry Martin Mitchell, 74 , of Olin, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville.

He was born on September 19, 1949 in Iredell County to the late Clarence Martin Mitchell and Willie Mae Rumple Mitchell.  Barry was a member of Westwood Baptist Church in Statesville and was a retired firefighter with the city of Statesville.

He enjoyed studying the Word of God, teaching Sunday School and fellowship with his church family.  For many years Barry was involved in mission trips, which included West Virginia, Florida, Finland, Estonia and Ukraine.

Barry was an avid sportsman who enjoyed deer hunting, dove hunting and turkey hunting.  Golf and bowling were his favorite sports.  Both sports allowed him to have good exercise along with wonderful talks and laughs.

He adored his children and grandchildren.  He was looking forward to meeting his first great-grand child in September.  Barry prayed for his family on a daily basis and challenged each of them to have a personal relationship with Jesus and become faithful servants in their churches and communities.

Left to cherish his memory are:  His wife of 49 years:  Patricia Felts Mitchell and three daughters:  Amy M. Pennington, Anita M. Long (Jerry) and JoAnna C.  Mitchell.  Grandchildren include:  Sean McDaniel (Carrigan), Taylor McDaniel (Elise), Caleb Long and Talea Parker.  Along with a brother: Jerry Mitchell (Jeweleen) and sister-in-law, Bonnie Mitchell. Barry is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Barry is preceded in death by two brothers:  William Roger Mitchell (Rose) and Keith Nolan Mitchell as well as his precious grandson, LCPL Johnathan Sharpe.

A celebration of life service will be at Westwood Baptist Church at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.  The family will gather prior to the service at 11:30 AM for visitation.

Burial will follow the service at Iredell Memorial Gardens in Statesville.
