Barbara Whitener Freeze, 84, of Troutman passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. She was born in Iredell County on December 22, 1925 to the late Sidney Otha and Lillian Brantley Whitener. She was a lifelong member of Troutman First United Methodist Church and worked as a secretary for Bell and Howard for 40 years. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Ann F. Beam (Jim) of Statesville; a son, John Randy (Tricia) Freeze of Isle of Palms, S.C.; four grandchildren, Leigh Ann Beam, Adam (Christine) Freeze, Taylor Freeze and Alexis Freeze; one great grandchild, John Logan Freeze; two step grandchildren, Allison Beam (Mike) Phillips and Keith Beam; one brother, Sidney (Frances) Whitener of Crumpler, N.C.; and three sisters, Annie W. Lapish of Troutman, Joyce W. (Leon) Eaton of Mocksville and Sara W. (Johnny) Hartline of Statesville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Hoyt Freeze, and two brothers, Willis and Harry Whitener. Funeral services celebrating Barbara’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Troutman First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jack Wallace and Adam Christianson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service and will assemble at 222 Rumple St. in Troutman at other times. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, N.C. 28625 and Troutman First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 717, Troutman, N.C. 28166.
