Audrey (Loftin) Montgomery

Audrey Loftin Montgomery, 88, of Statesville, passed away, Monday, January 17, 2022 at the Gordon Hospice House.

Mrs. Montgomery was born June 3, 1933 in Troutman, NC and was the daughter of the late Foy Tate Loftin and Mary Katherine Haithcox Loftin. She was a graduate of Troutman High School and Queens College. She was married to the late David Oren Montgomery, Jr., who passed away March 23, 2009 and together they were members of Broad Street United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. In her earlier years, Audrey worked for the Statesville Record & Landmark and was involved in the community theater and was also a member of the McDowell Music Club.

She is survived by three children, David O. Montgomery, III of Statesville, Claire M. Bailey (David) of Anderson, SC, William Thomas Montgomery, Sr. (Terry) of Fletcher, NC; four grandchildren, Erin B. Newberry (Derek), Allison Bailey, John Bailey, William T. Montgomery, Jr.; three great grandchildren, Dawson, Mac and Monty Newberry; two step grandchildren, Sarah Holt, Daniel Holt and one sister-in-law, Martha H. “Pat” Loftin. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Philip Loftin.

A private family graveside service will be held 1:00pm Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Sonny Reavis officiating.
