Audrey Jane Knight McDonald, 87, of Statesville, NC, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026.
Born on August 25, 1938, Audrey grew up in High Point, NC. She graduated from Lees-McRae College and worked in both the medical and legal fields. Audrey was a dear friend, beloved mother and wife, and an enthusiastic world traveler.
She made lasting memories through escapes to the beach, Blue Ridge Mountain drives, long laughs over good wine, and, in her later years, travels across the United States, Canada, and beyond. From Egypt to Russia, Italy to Scotland, Audrey made the most of life and cherished every adventure.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Charles M. McDonald, Jr., who passed away in September 2024, and by her brother, George Edward Knight.
A small committal service for Audrey and Charles will be held at Concord Presbyterian Church in Statesville on Saturday, March 28, at 1:30 p.m. after a light reception at noon. The service will be followed by the placement of their ashes in the church columbarium.
She is survived by her two children, George Edwin McDonald of Minneapolis, MN, and Heather McDonald of San Francisco, CA; two grandchildren, Liam Joseph McDonald and Genevieve “Evie” Rose Crovo; and her niece, Susan Smith. She leaves behind many cherished cousins and extended family members, including Billy Smith, Deborah Broad, Joni Moffitt, and Derek Crovo.
The family thanks Concord Presbyterian, Pennybyrn Skilled Nursing, Kate (“GiGi”) Pearson, and the many friends and family members who cared for Audrey and Charlie in their final years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Concord Presbyterian Church — or, at the very least, take a trip and make some memories.
Arrangements for Audrey are in the care of Troutman Funeral Home.
