Arlie Mae Williams Redmond

Oct 9, 1938 — Apr 10, 2026

Mt. Pleasant, SC

Mae Redmond, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away in Mt. Pleasant, SC on April 10, 2026 at the age of 87. Born on October 9, 1938, Mae graced the world with her joyful presence and left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

Mae's family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill and her daughters, Cheryl Troutman and Robin Cashion, alongside her husband Bob Cashion. Her legacy also continues on through her grandchildren, Jennifer & Chanan Cole, Heather & Andrew Pappa, and Erika & Travis Hughes. When she had grandchildren, Mae became “Grammy”-a title that she proudly embraced and the name she gave to most people she met thereafter. Mae's love expanded further to her great-grandchildren, Sully and Banks Cole, Hudson and Camden Pappa, and Ansley Hughes - each of whom adored her and brought her immense happiness.

Mae grew up in Statesville, NC, with her late parents, Creola & Navie Williams, and her four siblings. She is survived by her brother, Carl (Dianne) Williams, and her sister, Ann (Steve) Knight, nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jesse Williams, who surely welcomed her with open arms.

Mae is the cherished wife of Bill Redmond. The two shared an extraordinary 70 year love story that began when they exchanged vows in 1956. Their marriage is a testament to enduring love and a lifelong companionship that revolved around family, respect, and faith. They worked hard, hand-in-hand, to create a beautiful life together. They also shared an appreciation for the simple joys of life - walks on the beach, tending to their yard, and quiet moments of peace on their porch.

Mae’s strong work ethic followed her from a childhood on the farm to working hard in her own home and at Davis Hospital until her retirement. Her generosity & nurturing spirit went well beyond her family & work as she selflessly cared for friends and family members throughout her life. Her warmth and welcoming spirit meant that she never met a stranger and everyone always got a hug.

One of Mae’s greatest joys was tending to her yard. You could always find her in the yard - clippers in hand and a smile on her face. She took great pride in her home and made it a haven for her loved ones-attested by the fact that all of her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids live within 15 minutes of Grammy & Poppa’s house. Grammy was known for singing “You Are My Sunshine” to her grandchildren but she was the ray of sunshine that drew everyone in.

Mae was also steadfast in her faith. She loved to read and study the Bible which was apparent in how she lived her life - with kindness, selflessness, and a sincere heart. Her light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew & loved her. She is an inspiration to us all to live more joyfully, purposefully, and peacefully.

A celebration of life will be held to honor Mae’s life at 11 AM on June 27, 2026 at Taylor Springs Baptist Church. All family and friends are invited.
