Jim Spencer

October 3, 1937 — February 25, 2016

Oct. 3, 1937 - Feb. 25, 2016 James "Jim" Marcus Spencer, Jr., 78, of Mooresville, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday, February 25, 2016. He was born October 3, 1937 in Iredell County to the late James Marcus and Alma Goodman Spencer. He graduated from Mooresville High School and attended Western Carolina in Cullowhee before entering the Navy where he served our country honorably. He married the love of his life, Cheryl Parrish Spencer, whom he adored for 21 loving years. Jim worked with AAA Travel Services for many years before becoming part owner of NTA Travel Agency. He served many years as President and Treasurer for the Charlotte branch of Skal International, a professional organization of tourism leaders from around the world. After retiring from the tourism industry, he worked with Troutman Funeral Home assisting as needed. Jim was the perpetual fun-loving jokester who always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell. He enjoyed being with people and was always "the life of the party" yet he also enjoyed the satisfaction of helping others whenever he could. He treasured being outdoors and was extremely proud of the beautiful lawn he so lovingly took care of. He also enjoyed sports and in his early years was a basketball player. In fact, he just recently brought out one of his jerseys to display it. Besides being a wonderful husband and brother, Jim was a loving father to his beloved dog, Markie, who preceded him in death and to his very special cat, Hart. As Jim was often fond of saying "Cheryl and I bought the east wing of the veterinary hospital." Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Cheryl, of Mooresville; sister, Phyllis (Gene) Honeycutt, of Troutman; special niece, Gena (Rob) Taylor of Mocksville; brother-in-law, Heyward (Treva) Parrish of Rock Hill, SC; sister-in-law, Debbie Parrish, also of Rock Hill; great nieces, Morgan and Maddie Taylor of Mocksville; and his special cat, Hart. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman with the Rev. Dieter Punt officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 308, Troutman, NC 28166 or to the Humane Society of Iredell, 110 Robinson Road, Mooresville, NC 28117. We will all truly miss this fun-loving, kind hearted, loving man.
