Mr. Alan Reece Williams, 79, of Olin, NC passed away, Sunday, July 7, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House following a period of declining health. Alan was born June 28, 1940 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Reece King Williams and Beulah Wall Williams. He was a 1958 graduate of Central High School, 1963 graduate of Appalachian State University and did post graduate work at N.C. State University. On August 6, 1960, he married Barbara Creedmore Williams, who survives. Alan taught school in Guilford County, became a NC Extension 4H agent in Forsyth County and later returned to the family farm. He joined his brothers in forming JoAlDa Farms and then Twelve Oaks Dairy from 1987-1998. In 1998 he started Olin Turf Farm, which he was currently working with his sons, Ted Williams and Todd Williams and grandson, Michael Williams. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, where he served as a Trustee, served on the Administrative Board, was a Sunday School Superintendent, sang in the choir, served as a Cemetery Trustee and was a member of the United Methodist Men. He was an ancient, free and accepted Mason and was designated as senior Warden and past Master of Olin Masonic Lodge 226, where he recently was honored with his 50-year membership. He also was a supporter and past President of the North Iredell High School Booster’s Club and was a founding member of the North Iredell Raiders Capital Improvements Club and was recently honored for his volunteerism. In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by three sons, Rick Williams (Deanna) of Olin, Ted Williams (Bobbi) of Olin, Todd Williams (Natalie) of Olin; eight grandchildren, Reece, Michael, Ryan, Riley, Carter, Elleigh, Cole and Barrett Williams; two sisters, Ellen Sprinkle (JD) and Rena Turner (Donald) and one brother, Dan Williams (Susan). He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joe Williams and his wife, Bobbie. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Friendship United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Donald Haynes, Rev. Judy Eury and Rev. Kristy Burnette officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic rites. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6:00-8:00 pm at Friendship UMC. Active pallbearers will be his six grandsons as well as Luke and Adam Prevette. Memorials may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church or to the North Iredell Raiders Capital Improvements Club.
