Mr. Shirley Lee Little, 97, of Statesville, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 15, 2020, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Little was born August 2, 1922 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Roy P. Little, Sr. and Brita Moose Little. He was a graduate of Celeste-Henkel School and served in the 104th Infantry Division of the US Army during WWII in France and Germany. On September 28, 1946, he married the late Gladys Anna Hoke Little, who passed away on June 3, 2008.
Following his service, he began working for Gem Gas Company and later retired from Par Gas Company. He was a lifelong farmer and a member of Woodman of the World for 79 years. He was an active member of Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, since 1946 where over the years, he served on the church council, Treasurer and sang in the choir.
Mr. Little is survived by one son, Roy Lee Little (Joyce) of Statesville; two daughters, Brenda L. Ganim (Vic) of Greensboro, Sandra L. Cashion of Salisbury; three grandchildren, Tamara L. Painter, Kimberly Little, Matthew Cashion; seven great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kylie and Nathan Painter, Ellie Upright, Connor, Caroline and Carson Cashion; one brother, Roy P. Little, Jr. of Statesville and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Margaret Baker, Lola Kuhnemann, Elaine Scott, Lois Johnson, Nancy King and one brother, Glenn C. Little.
Funeral services will be held 3:00pm Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church with Rev. Will Dulin, Rev. Thomas Corbell and Rev. Gene Bruce officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 2:00-3:00pm in the Church Fellowship Hall. Active pallbearers will be Al Kuhnemann, Michael Kuhnemann, Bobby Pope, Charles Doss,Ronda Hoke and Michael Kuhnemann, Jr.
The family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers, Marti Guy, Ann Brown, Krista Weatherman, Louise Walker, Jane Forsyth and the staff at the Gordon Hospice House for their love and care.
